Dish Network In Trouble After A Ransomware Attack

Reports from the satellite broadcast provider and popular TV Dish Network have revealed that a ransomware attack is responsible for the lingering service outage that started on Friday, February 24, 2023. Boost Mobile (a subsidiary owned by Dish Wireless),, Dish Anywhere app, and all other networks owned and operated by Dish Network are experiencing an unusual downtime labeled “frustrating” by some customers.

Before admitting the massive service outage was caused by a cyber-attack in an 8-K form filed on February 28, 2023, at the U.S. Security and Exchange Commission (SEC), Dish Network initially blamed the terrifying situation on a VPN issue. Further details by the service provider on the incident revealed that the system breach leaked private information. Still, for protective reasons, Dish Network didn’t divulge much about the stolen data, so it’s challenging to ascertain if it belongs to customers or Dish Network.

In a further discussion with the TV giant on February 27, 2023, the incident was uncovered due to the theft of some classified data from the Corporation’s IT systems. This birthed speculation of further unpleasant discoveries, with the company actively working to contain the situation and prevent further data leaks that could affect both the company and the customers.

Despite all the discoveries and steps taken by the company to contain the situation, Dish Network’s website functionality still falls below expectations. The company has displayed an error message at the top website’s homepage stating, “We are experiencing a system issue that our teams are working hard to resolve.”
